Fiat 500 (2009) Engine On or Off

Hi

I have replaced my daughters Instrument cluster on her Fiat 500 1.3 D - The car is 2009 model and I need to perform a proxy alignment and mileage adjustment - does the engine need to be running to perform a proxy alignment or is ignition On sufficient ?

Old odometer was 96000 miles, new odometer is brand new, so should be suitable to clock forward etc.
