OBD compatible with MES and Abarth (Fiat)?

The main thread about faulty ELM327 versions has a lot of replies, but unfortunately most of them aren’t very helpful, because everyone seems to have a completely different issue.

So, here’s my situation:

I have a 2018 Abarth with the engine check light on. I know it’s related to an O2 sensor, but I don’t know which one. I’d like to use (and probably buy) MultiECUScan to read the error codes and check real-time graphs.

The problem is that I don’t currently have any OBD interface to connect the car to my computer. A friend offered me his “Chinese” ELM327 v1.2, but it’s too old and doesn’t work (low bit rate and MES needs at least 1.3 version).

I’m looking to buy an OBD interface specifically to use with my Abarth and MES. I don’t need support for other cars or multiple interfaces.

Which OBD interfaces do you recommend for use with MES and Abarth only? Is there any cheaper but reliable option? I’ve basically given up on random Chinese ELM327 clones from AliExpress, since the main “ELM327 faulty” thread is full of examples of non-working devices. Still, is there any proven, reliable option from AliExpress that works well with MES and Abarth?

I’ve also seen that some modules require the yellow adapter cable for Fiat. That’s fine for me, as long as it works.

Thanks to you all!

Short answer is to purchase from one of the recommended distributors.

See: https://www.multiecuscan.net/Distributors.aspx

If you buy from them they will also help / provide reasonable support should you need it or have problems.

Whilst they might be slightly more expensive than other eBay and other sources they ONLY sell what they guarantee to work.
