An issue of Latency

Hi, whilst using Muliecuscan for the first time it failed to complete the desired program task and had a red warning flashing in the lower right hand corner of the display - "latency too high". Am I to assume this is related to laptop age or lack of processing speed?
Can someone advise as to what spec laptop I need if this is the case?
